Let’s talk transitions!
One of the most challenging parts of the school day for kindergarteners is transitions. We make so many of them throughout the day (clean up to snack, snack to recess, recess to math, and so on!) In my classroom I like to set a timer or play a specific song to help ease the class into transitions and so they now what is coming.
You can do this at home too!
-Choose a special cleanup song that you play every time it’s time to cleanup. Your child will learn how long they have and pace themselves accordingly. Disclaimer: make sure it’s one you like too because you will hear it a ton!
-Set a timer when it’s almost time to transition to a new activity. You tube has great visual timers for kids! Rainbows, space, puppies, you name it. Let them help you press start or even choose what kind of timer. Start with longer increments (10-5 mins) then you can work to smaller increments (2-3). Trust me, it works wonders!
