How to get your child to open up about their school day

Tired of asking kids how their day was only to get the response....

“Fine” or “Ok”

Try Asking more specific questions!

For example...

  • What did you play at recess?

  • What books did your teacher read today?

  • What made you laugh today?

  • Did you learn anything new today?

  • Did you have a classroom job today?

  • Did anyone have a hard time today?

  • Did you have any special classes today?

A few tips...

  • Don't bombard them with questions right away and give them some time to open up on their own

  • The first few days/weeks they likely won't remember classmates names, that's ok!

  • Try looking at pictures on the school/class page with them to jog their memory
