Do you teach your child about holidays other than your own?

Teaching kids about diversity means teaching them about diverse holidays too!

Why is it important?

  • So we can raise children who are compassionate towards others and care about the world around them.

  • Learning about other cultures can help us understand people that are different than us and learn to respect and celebrate those differences.

  • They are important cultural events with rich history that kids (and adults) could learn more about.

How can we teach about holidays around the world?

  • Through literature

    • There are so many great books about holidays around the world, and about specific holidays. Keep building your diverse home library by adding books about holidays you don't celebrate as well as those that you do.

  • Through friends

    • Chances are you know someone who celebrates a different holiday than your family. Ask if you can join their celebration!

  • Through your community

    • Find a local event or festival in your community that celebrates different holidays.

  • Through food, games, and crafts

    • Try a new recipe, game or craft from Pinterest that represents. a different culture from your own.
